TeekayTheKid, founder of TheKidSPEAKS, LLC, a collective…
Often coined the “voice of reason,” she lends her ideas around introspective thinking and reflection to encourage her audiences to impact their circumstances through the awareness and evolution of self. She believes each person is “the expert of their own experience” and provides safe spaces for sharing said experiences. As a self-proclaimed conversationalist, she facilitates conversations and connections to build bridges while breaking barriers in her community. She does this in both personal and professional spaces. In addition to curating, she enjoys serving others and spending quality time with her family and friends.
When: Wednesday, May 24 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Spauldings Library (Large Meeting Room) - 5811 Old Silver Hill Road District Heights, MD 20747
Teekay, a name used first by a close relative in her youth, was a simple abbreviation of her birth name, TeKahnanna. TheKid is now used to redefine the nickname. She was often the youngest of the group and yet somehow deemed among the wisest, and not by her admission or representation. Since she was a young child, she has been considered wise far beyond her years. As she grows her brand and artistry, she leans into her experiences and allows her innate and intuitive gifts to be stretched and strengthened.
It is said that “from the mouth of babes comes truth and wisdom” in this way TeekayTheKid has only one intention. She seeks to bring her innocence, truth, and transparency to pages and stages, coupled with her wit and plays on words to share her life’s lessons. TeekayTheKid commits to remaining youthful in her approaches to art. While she has not decided exactly where she is going, she is hopeful that her love of words and her dedication to writing will continue to make way for her in the community of creatives as it changes the world.
In January 2020, she self-published and launched her first Collection of Poetry, “HERShes: Poetry is My Chocolate, She is My Muse.” She writes about her perspectives on Life, Spirituality, Relationships, and Self Awareness. Inside this collection, she has a section of what she likes to call “HerKu,” As a two-fold play on words, she found this as ownership of her Haiku. She has always enjoyed free verse and unrestricted writing. More recently, she has been highly intentional about sticking to the beauty and impactful nature of this short and sweet writing style. In 2022 she was nominated for the DMV Renaissance’s Haikuist of the Year award. Her second published poetry collection will be released by the Spring of 2024.
