Organizing to build a post-conviction movement by identifying challenges and creating solutions
within the DMV.

Life After Release (LAR) is a formerly incarcerated Black woman-led and guided organization that is building a movement among Black women and families to abolish the criminal legal system.

Since 2017, they’ve rebuilt their devastated communities and kept them safe through community safety alternatives, designed to support and empower formerly incarcerated individuals. LAR’s initiatives include educational workshops, job training programs, housing assistance, and legal aid services. Their dedicated team works collaboratively to provide comprehensive support and resources, helping individuals successfully reintegrate into society and lead fulfilling lives.
