Akeelah and the Bee follows Akeelah Anderson, a bright 11-year-old girl from a South Los Angeles neighborhood who discovers she has an extraordinary talent for spelling. With the encouragement of her mentor, family, teachers, and community, she overcomes self-doubt, personal challenges, and fierce competition to pursue her dream of competing in the National Spelling Bee. Along the way, Akeelah learns that success comes through perseverance, confidence, and the support of those who believe in her.
