Creative Suitland Arts Center presents WRITING TO WELLNESS™, a discussion-based workshop founded and created by C. Alexandria-Bernard Thomas, Sole Proprietor of C. Thomas Works.

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Created by C. Alexandria-Bernard Thomas, WRITING TO WELLNESS™ is a discussion based workshop designed for writers to use poetry as a tool for healing when navigating trauma. Participants will learn helpful tips via discussion on how to navigate trauma through expressive forms of creative writing, how to advocate for others and how to build a safe space for self-care.

This is a safe space for ALL. No writing experience required!

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Kim B Miller uses her words to connect people to their strength. She makes empowerment touchable so you can obtain it. 

She’s a speaker that cultivates growth and a poet who speaks bold truths. She’s gets people to explore hope.

Kim is a facilitator. She creates and develops her own training material. Her interactive workshops are fun and informative. She recently facilitated a seminar at the 2022 Women’s Leadership Summit, in person, at Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Last year she facilitated an online workshop for University of California, Berkeley.

Kim also presented an educational session at the Empowering Excellence: STEM, Advocacy, Leadership & Wellness Conferences. The Educational Opportunity Association (EOA) is the group that planned this event. EOA is made up of TRIO and educational opportunity programs from across ten states in the Midwest, however; they had colleges and universities that attended this event from all across the country including: NJ, KY, TN, TX, OH, MI, IL, IN, MN, and WI.

Kim facilitated classes throughout her professional career at Verizon and other telecommunications companies. She currently facilitates parenting classes for Prince William County and she was a substitute teacher. Kim is also a facilitator for F.I.S.T. stands for: Fighting Injustice Standing Together. She has been facilitating classes since 2017. This beautiful program was started by Schai Schairer. Kim is one of the poetry and theater facilitators for incarcerated women.

Writing to Wellness was created by C. Thomas and he invited Kim to facilitate classes. This inspiring program really gets people to write and explore healing in a real, meaningful way.

Kim is the Poet Laureate of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park Virginia. She is the First African American Poet Laureate for PWC, VA. 

Kim is an award-winning spoken word poet. She received the 2021 DMV Best Business Award in the category of Arts & Entertainment. She is also the 2021 DMV Renaissance Haikuist of the Year and the 2019 Southern Fried Haiku Champion. Southern Fried Poetry Slam is one of the largest Spoken Word and Performance Poetry tournaments in the world.
