SOUND OFF! is a virtual open mic hosted by the legendary poet and activist C. Thomas! This is a safe space where participants are encouraged to express themselves.

Open Mic Rules

1. 5 minutes: As soon your mouth opens, your 5 minutes have begun.

2. Respect the Space: This is a safe space and will be treated as such. The open mic is church for many of us and It takes a lot of courage to share while fighting a war of nerves to share parts of our lives with others. We don’t know each other’s struggles, but we respect one another.

3. What you won’t do: Straight to the point, no racism, no disrespect against ANYONES sexuality, no misogyny, no BS!

4. Watch your mouth: Yes, cursing is allowed but only in context of the poem!

5. Bye Felicia! Not following any of these rules will get you kicked out and banned from future open mics, so play nicely. We all here for a reason, let’s have fun, let’s enjoy this space and the art we are about to witness.


About The Host!

C. Thomas proves to be no stranger to the world of arts. Beginning his career as a serial open mic attendee in 2004, he has been afforded opportunities to showcase his raw talent to the masses.

Named a Pioneer of Poetry by NUSPA (National Underground Spoken Word Poetry Awards) in 2015, C. Thomas has stunned audiences at Studio 2001 Art Gallery, Busboys and Poets, Angelina College, Howard University, Prince George's Community College, Thomas Jefferson University, Old Dominion University, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Glen Forest Elementary School, Carlos Rosario International Charter School, and Journey of Faith United Methodist Church.

His work has appeared in Swerv Magazine, Reflections: Prince Georges Community College Fine Arts Magazine, Stoked Words: An Anthology of Queer Poetry from The Capturing Fire Slam and Summit, and Imagoes: A Queer Anthology along with several of his own publications: Moodz’ Ring, Voices Carry, Coloring Outside The Lines, and Bernard’s Bedroom.

Mysfit

Hailing from West Baltimore City, Mysfit The Lostboy is a spoken word artist, performer, storyteller, author and playwright escaping the madness of world through art .His work captures the very essence of tragedy and uses its bitterness to create beauty while breaking down barriers meant to stand in his way and for the Black LGBTQ Community.

Mysfit’s work has been published in the poetry and urban fiction genres. Most recently he won the 2019 Day Eight Poetry Project and published his 2nd book of poems entitled "Port of Exit". He writes from a place of hope and humanity. The stage is where he allows his art to lift from pages as he opens to share his passions.

Shy in nature but ferocious on stage, TheMysfit is a living testament proving poetry soothes even the most savage beast.


LifeofDon

LifeofDon is African American born and raised in Bronx, New York City. he has a bachelor's in political science and masters I public relations. He has been writing for five years and has just started making a lead way in his poetic career.
